Laundry Aide

The primary purpose of your job position is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and/or the Director of Laundry Services, to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner, and that an adequate supply of linen is on hand at all times to meet the needs of the residents.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
  2. Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be. (NOTE: Such occurrences must be reported on the shift in which they occur.)
  3. Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services when performing routine assignments in resident living areas.
  4. Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed or scheduled.
  5. Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
  6. File complaints/grievances with your supervisor.
  7. Participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed.
  8. Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or as directed.
  9. Attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazard communication, TB management, and blood borne pathogens standard.
  10. Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.
  11. Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
  12. Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects.
  13. Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  14. Keep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc.
  15. Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used in the work area. Refer to material safety data sheets (MSDSs) when necessary.
  16. Follow established policies governing the use of labels and MSDSs.
  17. Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor.
  18. Ensure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing laundry procedures.
  19. Participate in an in-service training program prior to performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals.
  20. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials.
  21. Follow established hand-washing procedures.
  22. Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with our established sanitation procedures.
  23. Follow established policies governing the use/disposal of personal protective equipment and disposal of infectious wastes.
  24. Coordinate isolation procedures with nursing service.
  25. Other(s) that may become necessary/appropriate to assure the laundry department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  26. Ensure that an adequate supply of laundry/linen supplies is maintained in laundry/linen closets to meet the daily needs of the residents.
  27. Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
  28. Keep work area(s) free of hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, excess laundry carts, baskets, supplies, equipment, etc.
  29. Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to the Director of Laundry Services.
  30. Report all equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as practical.
  31. Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc., as directed or requested.
  32. Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary/directed.
  33. Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
  34. Perform day-to-day laundry functions as assigned.
  35. Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
  36. Perform assigned tasks in accordance with established laundry procedures.
  37. Collect, sort, and weigh soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and place in appropriate containers or assigned areas.
  38. Sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and separate those items that require special stain removal/treatment.
  39. Sort, count, and wash soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., in accordance with established procedures.
  40. Press/iron garments as instructed.
  41. Fold, count, stack, hang, and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., to residents daily and/or as instructed.
  42. During emergency conditions, assure that clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., are distributed to designated areas as instructed.
  43. Clean floors, including sweeping, dusting, and damp/wet mopping. (NOTE: Assure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.)
  44. Keep walls and ceilings clean by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc.
  45. Remove dirt dust, grease, film, etc., from equipment or floor surfaces, using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
  46. Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
  47. Report to supervisor any incident which may result in ruination of a residents personal belongings.
  48. Maintain the confidentiality of resident information.
  49. Knock before entering a resident’s room.
  50. Honor the residents’ personal and property rights.
  51. Report complaints of missing property to your supervisor.
